Dual Vision LASIK
I’m over 40. Am I Too Late for LASIK?
Usually, it’s around age 45 that we begin to notice the symptoms of presbyopia – the hardening of our natural lens that makes it difficult to shift focus from distance to near easily. What that translates to in our day-to-day lives is a gradual decrease in near vision. We need to hold magazines, our phone or package labels further away, or find we need more light, until eventually our arms aren’t long enough and we break down and acknowledge our aging eyes. This usually involves purchasing several pair of reading glasses we leave in key areas around the house, car and purse, or shift from single-vision glasses to bifocal or progressive lenses.
LASIK has historically been a great procedure for those not yet affected by presbyopia and simply ready to eliminate glasses for distance vision. But LASIK has required a bit of compromise for those over 40 who wanted to maintain near and distance vision. Until now, there were only two options for treating presbyopia with LASIK: 1) correct both eyes for distance and use reading glasses for up-close tasks or 2) correct one eye for distance and one eye for near to create what’s known as monovision. For those who spend most of their day doing near work (reading, computer, etc.), the first option still requires wearing glasses a significant portion of time, which counters the benefit of LASIK. And the latter option, though it worked well for some, was often difficult for many to adapt to because their brain had trouble accepting different vision in each eye. Fortunately, there is now a better LASIK solution for presbyopes.
Dual Vision LASIK corrects both distance and near vision. This innovative treatment allows you to see near, far and in between without compromising balance, depth perception or night vision. Both eyes are corrected to be able to see near and far. The brain is not confused, balance is maintained, and eye strain is reduced. Those who choose Dual Vision LASIK have most often tried, but were frustrated by, monovision.
If you’re looking for a LASIK solution in both eyes, to correct both distance and near vision, Dual Vision LASIK may be the ideal solution for you.
