Our Specialty Lenses
The Polarized Lens Advantage
Beyond the protection of normal sunglasses which block harmful UVA and UVB rays, polarized lenses actually block bright light and help reduce the blinding and sometimes dangerous effect of glare from reflective surfaces such as the hood of a car, surface of an ocean or a flat road. Used for years by boaters and fisherman to reduce glare from the water, polarized lenses have gained popularity recently, as a variety of outdoor enthusiasts have realized the benefits of these exceptional lenses.
Unlike normal sunglasses, which decrease the intensity of everything by the same amount, polarized lenses selectively eliminate the reflection of light coming from horizontal surfaces such as water, snow, or concrete and asphalt. These lenses will deliver the best vision for activities such as water sports, tennis, golfing, driving, and general outdoor activity on bright sunny days.
Some sunglasses come polarized from the manufacturer, however the selection tends to be sporty. The availability of polarized fashion sunwear is extremely limited. At Eye Consultants, we are now able to polarize lenses for virtually all sunwear frames we carry. Choose the frame you like. We can polarize the lenses. No other optical facility in southwest Florida offers this degree of customization.
Simplify With Transition Lenses
Photochromic lenses, such as Transitions®, automatically darken and lighten in response to changing light. This instinctive adaption to changes in lighting conditions, delivers comfort, convenience and protection.
This dynamic eyewear is designed to be worn indoors and to adapt when outdoors to give you a more comfortable viewing experience while protecting your eyes from damaging UV light. In the absence of ultraviolet light, transition lenses, have little-to-no light reducing properties. But with exposure to UV light, transition lenses will adjust to the intensity of light, restricting the amount of sunlight that reaches your eyes. On bright, sunny Florida days, the lenses will automatically darken, providing effortless protection from sun’s damaging rays.
Transitions are perfect if you wear prescription lenses because you are completely protected from UV rays, just like with a pair of sunglasses, only you’ll no longer need to carry an extra pair frames. And the lenses can be designed to fit virtually every frame, style, size and prescription. Transitions represent the seamless fusion of practicality and versatility. Simple meets stylish.
Live Life Without Lines
If you’re over 40 and have trouble reading fine print, you’re not limited to the age-telling, lined bifocals your parents wore. Conventional bifocal lenses contain two different prescriptions in the same lens to provide distance vision and near vision focusing. However, the line on the lenses creates a drastic change in power which causes images to appear to jump as you move from distance to near.
Progressive lenses, sometimes called “no-line” bifocals, eliminate the visible lines of traditional bifocals and trifocals, creating a smooth, more comfortable transition from distance through near. Instead of having just two or three lens powers like bifocals or trifocals, progressive lenses are multifocal lenses providing a seamless progression of many lens powers for all viewing distances. The result is a gradual focus change from far to near, with an intermediate section in between. This is a more natural treatment of presbyopia than bifocals, delivering an uninterrupted view of the world.
